AFFECTS OF COVID-19 on the SMALL CLAIMS COURT:

Due to COVID-19, appearances in the Small Claims Court will be conducted on the Zoom video platform. For information on the Court’s requirements for virtual hearings, click here. Effective March 15, 2021, the Court is now making Settlement Conference dates available for all matters. Trial dates however are only being set for matters where Trials had already commenced prior to March 16, 2020. Further updates can be found on the Court’s page.

During the initial COVID-19 shutdowns, some limitation periods were suspended. Those limitation periods have now restarted and the suspension affects matters from March 17, 2020 to September 13, 2020.

Also due to COVID-19, in-person appearances in the Provincial Offences Court remain suspended. Early Resolution Meetings and Judicial Pre-Trials are being heard by telephone or Zoom.
